Course content:
A two day Hand Lettering course with illustrator, Andrea Joseph. This is no traditional calligraphy course, but a more playful approach to hand lettering. No rulers or measuring (well, not much) in this workshop. We will copy, study, create, manipulate, exaggerate, plagiarise, ruin, use and abuse, and invent our own fonts.
We'll learn how to use hand writing in a more creative way; how lettering can become an integral and beautiful part of our artwork; or just how to create the most souped up shopping lists to take to the supermarket!
This is a workshop for people of all levels. No previous experience needed. Just come along.
Materials included in the course price, but if you usually work in a sketchbook I'd invite you to bring that along so that the lettering, and tricks you learn, becomes a part of your regular practice. If you have your own favourite pens or pencils or drawing/writing tools then bring them along too. The things you learn should be a way of developing your own work, not something detached from it.
I have been using hand written text in my artwork since I started drawing. For me, the two are equally important . I look forward to sharing some of my passion for this practice with you.
