The Studios Gallery is delighted to present “Circles Unbound”, an exhibition of recent abstract paintings and monoprints, by artist Suzanne Bethell. The paintings are created in series, several of which have been inspired by a recent visit to Kenya: the rich, earth colours of the Tsavo plains, vibrancy of African textiles and a sense of freedom. The monoprints are a celebration of colour, some playful and joyous whilst others have a calm, static quality.
The circle is a recurring theme in the work as Suzanne explains;
“I enjoy experimenting with colour blends which excite the eye. Working in a range of media, often mixed, I like to explore the emotional impact of mark making, texture and image. Recently I noticed that the circle had unconsciously become a recurring motif, possibly symbolising a return to beginnings, a softening of edges, wholeness"
