This hands-on workshop will guide you through how to make a mosaic of your own design using glass tiles. Students will complete a 20cm x 20cm mosaic, on plywood, suitable for indoor display.
• A short introduction to the tradition of mosaic
• An introduction to mosaic techniques; this workshop will cover the ‘direct method’
• How to approach designing a mosaic
• Cutting techniques, tile arrangements
• Materials and techniques for grouting
The art of mosaic offers rich opportunities for creativity through light, colour and texture.
All tools and materials are supplied, along with the essentials of tea, coffee and biscuits. Cafes and pubs are close-by for lunch or feel free to bring your own. Numbers are limited to 7 people to ensure close tuition.
Included in the cost is an optional pre-course consultation to talk about your designs. Deborah will meet you in The Studios to explore materials and discuss your ideas.
Time spent planning your design before the workshop means you can hit the ground running and maximise the time you spend on learning and improving your cutting technique. Please feel free to contact Deborah if you have any questions.
As we will be working with cut glass, for safety reasons you must be over 18 years of age to take part.
